AW16 – The Season of the Lace Longline

We do declare the coming season officially: the Season of the Lace Longline.

Okay, so that was very official of us, wasn’t it?! To cut a long story short, last weekend, we made a quite perilous journey to Birmingham to the Moda lingerie exhibitions – Charley from London where she’d spent the couple of days beforehand, Sian from North Yorkshire. Following various cancelled and delayed trains and a pretty nasty migraine, our visit was cut shorter than we expected, and Charley sadly didn’t make it through most of the day before having to catch an early train home. It meant in total, Charley only managed about half an hour of looking at pretty lingerie, and Sian only around a further 2 hours thanks to the long journey home still to make! Nevertheless, in that short space of time, we saw an absolute abundance of beautiful lingerie and we wanted to share some of that with you. (And don’t worry, we’re planning a full weekend nearer to Birmingham next season so we can see everything far more thoroughly!).
We’ve got a bit of a series of posts coming up to cover the brands we managed to chat with and photograph, but there was one thing that stuck out this season to us far more than anything else: the lace longline.

The Cleo Piper longline (photo above and at the top of post) is one which caught our eye a couple of months ago actually, when Panache first released imagery from their upcoming AW16 collection. It seemed like a fairly bold move for one of the big lingerie companies to (finally!) create another longline, but this time with a soft cup and added detail of lace, not to mention the fact that this is eyelash lace in a gorgeous cobalt blue.
We’ll talk about the full Cleo and Panache collections when we reach their post over the next week or so, but we most definitely swooned when seeing this bra in person. For me (Sian), it was my absolute pick of the season, and I have the month of release circled in calendar for it already! Fortunately, it coincides with my birthday month (hint to the boy here…!).
But as I continued to wander the stands at Moda, I noticed a theme – more and more lace longlines, even including another soft cup one! We’ll go into detail more on these pieces and brands in their full posts, but can you see why we’re declaring AW16 the year of the lace longline?

There are, of course, many more longlines, both lacey and non-lacey in the upcoming season, but this is our little sneak preview of what the standout piece from AW16 would be – Cleo really have hit it out of the ballpark with this one!
