Have you noticed recently that lingerie is more…in? As in, lingerie is on trend right now. While there have always been those lingerie obsessives like us out there, they’re often more closeted. Nowadays regular people, not just fashionistas, are buying more lingerie inspired pieces, and underwear-as-outerwear is a well established trend. In my teenage years and early 20s, my underwear was just something that went underneath clothes so wasn’t anything fancy. Young people today are showing off their strappy bodysuits, their embroidered triangle bras, their velvet robes on Instagram, wearing them visibly under or over their clothes.
The upside of this is that more high street stores are latching onto the concept of nice lingerie being for everyone, meaning that it’s much easier to pick up more styled pieces. Lingerie trends such as embroidery and mesh are being seen in shops from New Look and Primark to H&M and Topshop. They’re available for every budget.
While these may not be the type of store that a lingerie connoisseur might shop at, they’re certainly not to be sniffed at. Personally, while I like to support indies when I can, high street stores make the trends all the more accessible for everyone. And they help to push forward the trends that indies are selling, helping them get their spotlight too. (Although do bear in mind that some independent designers have had their designs literally stolen by big brands, so try to be aware of this when you’re shopping).
If you’re buying Christmas lingerie for someone else – or for yourself because, let’s face it, that’s what I’m doing – here are some of our favourite high street picks that won’t break your budget.
Do you have any lingerie high street faves right now?
