Sonata Rapalyte Sonatine Ribbon Black Lace Bodysuit: Review

Sonata Rapalyte Sonatine Bodysuit review

There’s one piece of lingerie that I’ve been in love with for a long time: the Sonata Rapalyte bodysuit, specifically the ribbon back one. I think it was Of Lambs and Lace’s blog that first introduced me to the brand but I put the bodysuits out of my head thinking my bust would never fit one. Then I spotted Becky, who wears a similar bra size to me, posting a picture of hers on Instagram and mentioning that she could even fit a moulded bra underneath. And then on top of that, I found the bodysuit I wanted with the ribbon back on Secret Sales reduced from £151 full price to £59. I was sold.

I was little wary of Secret Sales as I’ve never ordered through it before. With such big discounts, I was worried there might be something wrong with the bodysuit or some catch, but it arrived quickly with no problems whatsoever. And I think I might be in love with this brand.

The quality of this piece of lingerie is really high – possibly one of the best quality pieces I own. I don’t tend to buy a lot of luxury lingerie because it’s hard to find in my size so I tend to stick with what I know, but the non-stretch lace on this is soft and fluid, the stitching is of good quality, the buttons and button loops seem secure, even under the weight of my bust, and it looks beautiful. I love the deep V neck design with the scalloped lace edge and the V back with the oversized and luxurious silk ribbon.

I chose to go for a size medium in the Sonata Rapalyte bodysuit. I would normally automatically go for a size small as I wear a size 8 to 10 in UK sizing, but the size chart lists the medium as a 36″ bust and 28″ waist – I’m about 37.5″ in the bust and 27″ in the waist so just over and just under the size chart! It states that this is a UK 10-12, but I think a normal size 12 might struggle to fit the medium so would probably be better sizing up. I found that luckily I had just enough room in the bust – it actually gives me a good bit of cleavage and support when fully fastened! I do find the underbust and waist to be a little too big for me, but that’s understandable as I don’t fit the size chart on those. The hips are a good fit, nice and snug around the thighs without being too tight.
I do find that the length is a little off on me – due to my larger and more projected bust than the design expects, the underbust seam tries to pull up over the bust or my breasts pull it down at the front and up in the back, like a bra with a band that’s too big. I just need a teeny bit more room in the bust and a tighter fit underbust and in the waist for it to fit better which would probably also fit the length issues too.
It fastens at the crotch with poppers which is really handy – not all bodysuits feature this!

One awesome thing about the Sonata Rapalyte bodysuit is the layering possibilities – like Becky suggested, it can be worn with a moulded bra underneath, and I’m considering wearing it out as clothing with a vest top underneath. Super versatile!
There are lots of colour options too which is really nice. I’m dying over the navy and fuschia Elektra version of the bodysuit as well as various other pieces of their lingerie – I’d love to try some of their bras and knickers too at some point in future to see how they’d work for a bigger bust.

Currently the Sonata Rapalyte Sonatine bodysuit isn’t available on Secret Sales any more, but they do often have sales on there so keep your eye out (and if you click through our link, you’ll receive a voucher as will we, yay!). You can buy it at their site too for £151 in sizes XS to XL.

Isn’t it?! Hopefully I’ll have an occasion soon (rather than just work :D) to wear it somewhere nice over something 🙂

Thanks! If only the sizing was just a liiiiittle bit closer it would be perfect, but I’m so happy with it 🙂

Wow this is gorgeous! I love the detailing. I’ve never tried one before and being a 30HH I didn’t think I would be able to wear one but I am convinced!

You should definitely give it a go, just in case! It’s also fairly easy to layer a bra under it too like Sweet Nothings did (and looked AMAZING in!) 🙂

I just wanted to say thank you for the Secret Sales tip! I stumbled across your blog while looking for bralets for larger busts. I’m a little bit obsessed with trying to find one that works and liked your Watson bra post over on RA… followed the link over here and then fell in love with this bodysuit after seeing this blog post.
Wandered over to Secret Sales and found only dregs of the last Sonata sale but signed up anyway. Lo and behold! A mere 24 hours later they announced a new Sonata sale… plus an extra 25% off with a voucher code 🙂
The bodysuit has arrived today and I am so happy with it. I’m a 32F with what has been described as an ‘African’ bottom but narrow, quite arched back, so I went for the large size. It is a little loose around my back but that’s kind of expected, and what I find with a lot of clothes, but the main thing is that it actually covers my bottom (just)! Plenty of room for my bust too.
I can’t wait to see what my boyfriend makes of it 😀

      Hi Bekki!
I’m SO glad you managed to hit on the Sonata sale on Secret Sales – I hadn’t even realised there was another one! Plus the extra 25% off?! So lucky! I’m really pleased that you like the bodysuit and it’s a fit that works for you – it’s not the easiest to fit bodysuits, so that’s great that you managed to get it to work 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by here and my blog too! Hope to see you around again!
