“Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue”
We all know the old wedding adage and superstition of wearing something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue for your your wedding day, but have you ever thought about incorporating this into your lingerie? Many use their garter to weave a bit of blue ribbon into their undergarments so it’s hidden away and not on display against a white dress, but why not take it a step further?
I’m not necessarily a traditional bride – I’m keeping the vast majority of the day a secret from online until afterwards, mostly because I know friends and family members want it to stay a surprise until the big day, so I’m keeping as much as I can offline. But you’ll see afterwards that I’m breaking tradition in a lot of areas – I’ll be doing my own speech on the day instead of my new husband doing one, and there will be quirky details throughout. As such, I’m not all that fussed about only wearing white. However, I wanted to ensure that for the one occasion where I can wear white or ivory lingerie, I am doing so.
Unfortunately, I’ve discovered I’m personally not a big fan of white or ivory lingerie on myself. I’m not sure whether it’s just that my very British pale skin isn’t complemented by stark shades of white, or maybe it’s just that I’m naturally extremely clumsy so tend to stay away from white in my daily life wherever possible. Either way, I’ve been building a bridal trousseau (basically, an excuse for new lingerie!), to be complete with a pair of knickers for “under the dress”, a few pieces of stand out “honeymoon lingerie” (ie. gowns and chemises I can lounge around in – again, an excuse to finally own these!), and a collection of other, smaller, honeymoon and wedding related pieces.

And so we come to the “Something Blue”. As I said, I’m not all that traditional in my wedding choices, but I feel like choosing blue lingerie for your wedding day or bridal trousseau can incorporate that age old Something Blue tradition while still feeling a little quirky and unique.
For those brides out there that are of a similar mindset to me, or just those of you that simply love blue lingerie, like me again, Figleaves have launched an edit of Something Blue lingerie, featuring sizes 28-44, A-H, and brands such as Empreinte, Dita von Teese, Chantelle and more, all in various shades of blue, from dusky and subdued, through pretty pale duck egg pastels, right up to bright royal blues and navy.
I’ll be bringing a full review of the Empreinte Diane featured on me here above (which is one of absolute favourite sets in the world to wear – I’m wearing it again right now!), but I’ve picked out a few others to show off. Whether you’re looking for a full set for your wedding day or you’re more of a bodysuit kind of gal for your honeymoon (and believe me, I’m both! Check out the Bluebella Amelie body in blue below), you’ll find Something Blue for you. Check out the full selection here and let me know if you choose anything blue!
